Egyptian
Series
"The Egyptian
Series of work started when I rediscovered the mummy at the
Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio that had fascinated me as a child.
"The mystery of death was the initial reason for these
paintings. The dark and vivid colors that are important to these
pieces express the impact that death has on all of us. The
simplified background of many of these paintings is a way of
reducing life and death. By putting the subject as the important
issue, it lets the viewer know what is important immediately.
"The ancient Egyptians have a theory about death. They preserved
the body so that when the spirit returned to it, the spirit
would know who was in the tomb. These works are my way of
preserving these individual's spirit.
"Since this series began in the 1980’s, my knowledge of
Egyptology has expanded. My interest in mummies has gone beyond
the aspect of their death. The exploration of who these people
are is of equal importance. The later Egyptian pieces explore
the mythology of early Egypt." -

Meditation
Series
"This series of work began in
2006. While meditating I noticed beautiful light and color. The
color and light quality have an ethereal quality to them. The
work is started as soon as I am finished meditating. The
location of my mediation influences the colors and shapes that I
observe. By meditating, serenity comes across in these works."
