Landscapes
"I
have journeyed on many trips across the United States and have
camped in remote areas, allowing me the opportunity to enjoy
nature. I have observed the land and nature in good and bad
weather. It has been raining with a mist across the valley or
the sun has shone
on the water of a creek, allowing me to
discover what nature has to offer. Besides traveling extensively
in the United States I have also traveled in Canada and Europe.
"The landscape is a motif I have
been interested in for many years. A shape or color in the
landscape intrigues me and from that inspiration a painting
develops. I work quickly in a direct attack method. Along with
my strong memories of a location, I respond to the color, line
and brush work as it emerges on my paper. I paint in several
media. Casein, which is an opaque watercolor, was my primary
medium for many years, however in recent years I have mostly
used acrylics. Most of my work is on paper but I occasionally
paint on canvas.
"Occasionally when traveling, the
opportunity to work on location arises. However, most of my
paintings are created in my studio, from the hundreds of
photographs that I have taken during my travels. These photos
serve as a visual reminder of a place that has inspired me."
